As a doctoral student in Media, Technology, and Society, you’ll receive five years of university funding through a combination of fellowships and assistantships (teaching assistantship, research assistantship, or graduate assistantship). All include a monthly stipend and tuition waiver.
Details of student funding and support appear in the MTS Program Handbook. A typical timeline follows here: In the first year of doctoral study, your fellowship will engage you in activities aimed at familiarizing you with the department and the profession. In your second and third years, you will have assignments as a teaching and/or research assistant. In the fourth year, your primary activity is completing your dissertation work. In the fifth year, you will have assignments as a teaching and/or research assistant. You may also apply for dissertation-year fellowships that the University and some of its research centers award to doctoral students.
